Mcfly - Unsaid Things (Our Story)

Let's go back 10 years ago when Mcfly first came out. I had not long started dying my hair and had a lip ring. This caused a lot of people to sing "Five colours in her hair" to me, even though I probably only had like two. Also taking you back to a throw back moment, so you can understand me a little bit more - I was into a lot of foreign rock at that time, so I had no time for Mcfly.

Roll forward to Tom's wedding speech and having one of my friends sending me the link. (Thanks Nome).
I couldn't get their songs out of my head after watching that video, even though I never listened to them willingly, I did hear their songs - lets face it, those songs are catchy so whether you like them or not, you'll find yourself singing them.
I've always found if I have a song stuck in my head, if I listen to it on repeat I can get it out - I know that makes no sense, but if I'm not a fan of it I will be like "SHUT UP!" after a while. Well the opposite happened with Mcfly. I enjoyed their music, so much so I went to see them on the McBusted tour and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I've been to a lot of gigs.

My sister owned this book so after the gig I asked her if I could read it, which she let me.
I, obviously not being a fan of the band from the beginning - nor being someone who listens to gossip via online or magazine, I actually didn't know most of what I was reading which made for a very interesting read.

What GoodReads Says:
In 2003, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter came together and formed what would become one of the most popular and successful bands in the UK. Just teenagers at the time, they were catapulted into the limelight and had to adapt quickly to their new-found fame – and everything that came with it. Now, at last, they have decided to tell their story, in full and revealing detail.

Speaking with candour and their trademark humour, Tom, Danny, Harry and Dougie share both the stories of their own lives and that of McFly. They give their personal insights into their contrasting childhoods, the individual paths that led them to the band, the struggles they have each overcome, their love lives and, of course, their music.

Packed with previously untold stories, a lot of laughter and the occasional tear, Unsaid Things offers a privileged look into the lives of four guys who started out as bandmates and became best friends. Their unique camaraderie radiates from every page and by the end of the book, you’ll know them almost as well as they know each other …

This book made me laugh, cry and make me respect the guys from Mcfly a lot more.
When I was reading this book, I had already converted into a Mcfly fan but after reading it I'm ashamed to say I wasn't all those years.
Especially as I'm the least cool person in the world. Haha.

I know most Mcfly fans know their story, but I still don't want to ruin anything.
If you want an honest, funny and personal story straight from the bands mouths, this is it. Including lots of pictures - which lets be fair were the first thing I looked at. Haha.

You're The One That I Want - Giovanna Fletcher

When I heard that Giovanna Fletcher was releasing another book, I think I honestly did a happy dance. Her debut book "Billy and Me" had me feeling every single emotion a person could feel, I absolutely feel in love with the book, the story, the characters, that little town and Giovanna's writing.
Of course as soon as I could do, I got myself on Amazon and pre-ordered her new book You're The One That I Want, then waited very patiently for it to be released.

I say patiently, I created a make up look based off of the cover back in February.

What GoodReads Says:
Maddy, dressed in white, stands at the back of the church. At the end of the aisle is Rob - the man she's about to marry. Next to Rob is Ben - best man and the best friend any two people ever had.

And that's the problem.

Because if it wasn't Rob waiting for her at the altar, there's a strong chance it would be Ben. Loyal and sensitive Ben has always kept his feelings to himself, but if he turned round and told Maddy she was making a mistake, would she listen? And would he be right?

Best friends since childhood, Maddy, Ben and Rob thought their bond was unbreakable. But love changes everything. Maddy has a choice to make but will she choose wisely? Her heart, and the hearts of the two best men she knows, depend on it...

Each chapter from the point of view of either Ben or Maddy, with bits of Rob sneaking in there too, but I won't tell you where he fits his parts in, because it will give away a lot.

It starts when the trio are 9 years old and Maddy moves to the town of best friends Rob and Ben. Straight away she attracts the attention of both boys - more so Ben, and they all become fast friends.
I don't know if Giovanna was inspired by her own life and how she met her now husband Tom, but it made me feel all warm inside when I read that, knowing that she and Tom met in school.

The book progresses through their teens and high school, where when they're 16 Maddy and Rob become a couple. I felt so sorry for Ben. I'm totally team Ben. haha.
Then to University, and being grown ups, the ups and downs these three friends nicknamed "Tripod" encounter. It really does pull at your heart strings, Giovanna did it again, I felt every emotion humanly possible reading this book.

Also at the end of the book Giovanna has written a list of her top ten ... including films, books and songs. The answers she gives are adorable and gives you more insight to the writer, which is a nice little touch.
I closed the book smiling, I cannot wait for her next book.

When will that be Gi? :P

Game Of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire

Hey guys, before I start this post I want to say that some of you will have noticed a change in the URL! I just wasn't using this blog, though I had loads of posts half written in my drafts -  I just didn't know where to take it. Now I've changed it from Juyey Rambles to Juyey Reads. A place where I can do book reviews, as I do get through quite a lot of books. Haha.

First book I'm going to be reviewing since the name change is A Game of Thrones - A song of Ice and Fire by George  R.R. Martin.

For the longest time I've been putting off reading these books as the last books I read that had loads of hype around them, (50 Shades of Grey) I absolutely hated.
Finally I got around to buying the first book on Google earlier in the month.

What GoodReads says:
The first volume of A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. GAME OF THRONES is now a major TV series from HBO, starring Sean Bean.

Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.

The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

I have to first say I haven't seen the show, so this review is based purely off of the book.
I was angry reading it. Angry.
I know it is based in a time when men thought they ruled the world, whilst woman would do anything to please their men but as a woman I just got angry.

Without giving spoilers, I just wanted to slap the woman (and girls) who wanted to do nothing more than "give their man - who they may not be with for many years - a son!"
A main character ate the raw heart of a horse because of a myth that said that her unborn child could end up basically being stillborn, disabled or... A FEMALE! Oh shock horror. That actual scene did make me want to heave a bit as well.

There was another line where one of the characters mentioned that the people in this area they were currently in, allowed everyone to have an opinion, even woman!
Then a woman was getting raped over the corpses of those in her village, by numerous guys.
It just made me angry and cringe so much reading it, I don't enjoy reading that.

If you've got a weak stomach, avoid these books like the plague because they are graphic.
If you're a woman or have any sort of respect for woman, again avoid, because you will get angry like me at certain scenes. Also I should warn you now, they don't seem to care about how old the females are before "having their way" with them. There is also incest.

Looking at it like that I honestly don't understand how these books got so popular, really makes me worry about people. Saying that though, once you get past the underage sex, incest, violence, animal cruelty and sexism the actual story is interesting, enough that I've bought the next 4 books to carry on reading it.

I honestly don't think this book is worth the hype everyone is throwing around them, but once you get past all the foul themes it's an okay read, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I know this is a bit of a mixed review. I will be reviewing each book as I finish, maybe I'll enjoy them the more I get involved in that world.

Last thing I shall leave you with, do not get attached to the characters.
No one is safe in this world.
