Looking For Alaska - John Green

Hey guys I have another John Green book review for you, I actually read this book before The Abundance of Katherines, yet am reviewing it afterwards because that makes perfect sense, right?

Looking For Alaska is actually my favourite book by John Green (Though I've yet to read Will Grayson, Will Grayson so that could change), I'm sure a lot of people are standing there shocked as "TFIOS" is the best book EVER! Which don't get me wrong, it's a great book but this one for me just better. 

I loved all the famous last words that were used, it definitely sounds like a morbid way to pass time - looking up the last words of people, but it's curious to see what people say in their last moments and makes you wonder what yours would be. 

I actually really cried in this book and there was a part I refused to believe had happened until I had finished the book, then I had to accept it. It took me by surprise - which it shouldn't have done, I've read John Green books, it really shouldn't have shocked me, but it did and had me sobbing because of it. 

Definitely a book I could curl up and read again and again, which to me is the best kind of book. I like revisiting worlds now and again.

A Storm of Swords - George R R Martin

Hey guys, today I have the third book in the series, I have to admit that I really wasn't looking forward to this book, not after the hate I felt reading the first and the boredom reading the second.

So what did I think of A Storm of Swords parts 1 & 2?

I actually enjoyed it, there was a lot more story instead of like the last book, that just had a lot of details that felt like they were just there to take up space. This one was a page turner, though I could live without hearing about rape (again) and the use of the word c**t is uncalled for and a little bit cringy, the story was much better and had me wanted to read through the books.

I have to admit I was very confused as this is book three, but on my copies it's split into two books so part 1 and part 2, but along the spine of the book it called book 3.2 book 4, so there was me frantic thinking "I haven't got the next book, I have book three and book 4, I need book 3.2!" Yeah just to confuse me, book 4 was book 3.2.  Apparently it's the same with book 5, for me that's book 6 and 7. Way to confuse people.

Although if you go into Asda they were doing a 3 for £10 on the Game of Thrones books, so you could get both parts of this book and another for 51p more than you'd pay for the book on Amazon.

A Clash of Kings - George. R.R Martin

Hey guys, the next instalment of the Game of Thrones books. 

If you can recall I wasn't the biggest fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, it made me angry. 

By the time I got to this book, I wasn't as angry though still made me cringe reading about rape, as well as how bad woman are treated. 

In honesty this book bored me. I just went from feeling angry with one book to being bored. It got better the further I got in the book but it started off way too slow for me. So slow apparently that the start of Season 2 (yep I've caught up on the series now) cut off most of it. 

There are too many "kings" and most of them irritated me, especially Joffrey - that child needs a slap. 

I think with this book is that there was so much detail where there really didn't need to be, that by the end of the chapter you were left there wondering what you'd just read, so by the time you got back to that characters next chapter, you had no clue what was going on. It's great he has this world down to have so much details but I felt like it was just used to take up room in the word count form. 

I am currently on A Feast With Crows now and am enjoying the series much more, just this book was not the best. (For me).

Letters From Alcatraz - Michael Esslinger

Hey guys, today's review is on this book based around the inmates of Alcatraz.

I don't know why but I've always found Alcatraz fascinating, not sure why - it was a prison, I can't say I've been curious about other prisons before. I don't know if it's location - I've always wanted to go to San Francisco and this prison was located off shore on a rock. Fascinating.

When I saw that Amazon were giving this book away for free I had to download it for my Kindle. It did take me ages to get around to read it as there was so many other books ahead of it on my list, but when I did I was glad. 

Not only does this book go into details about certain inmates, what they were in there for and what was recorded about them whilst they were there, it also had letters from the inmates to family members and their replies. It was so interesting to read knowing it was written by the actual people, in those moments of what could only be described as living in hell. 

Some of the letters repeat themselves so  I can understand that could get boring for some readers, but all in all it was a great read.  Not only are all the letters typed out so you can read them properly, there are copies of the actual letters, lots of photocopies of photos, as well as history on the prison and the reason it ended up closing its doors. 

This book is no longer free on Amazon, you can buy it for £4.28 on Kindle though.

An Abundance of Katherines - John Green

Hey guys, a John Green book today. I think this is the 4th book I've read of John's and it was just as good as the others. If you're a JG fan you will like this.

Colin Singleton has only one requirement when it comes to girls, they have to be called Katherine. 

19 times he's been dumped, all by a Katherine. His best friend decides he needs to do something for Colin, so they go on a road trip to help Colin forget K-19. 

Colin is trying to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, in hopes he can predict the future of any relationship, this involves a lot of maths based on his past relationships. Interesting even if you're not a maths fan. 

They end up in a little town where the body of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is said to rest. From there they meet a new friend Lindsay who shows them the grave. Her mum ends up giving them jobs and a place to stay for the summer.  Whilst Colin is working on his theory, a summer passes with all sorts of adventures.

Time Rift - Eric Fox

I found this as a freebie on Amazon a while ago, I love reading books that are based around actual events that have happened, but with a twist so this book seemed perfect for me, especially as it involved time travel. I love the idea of time travel. (Not a surprise I love Doctor Who and Back to the Future). 

This book is based on the Grandson of a guy called Thomas Cole, Thomas was hired to deliberately sink the Titanic. As we know in actual events the Titanic did sink but in this book with the ability to travel back in time Thomas's grandson, David Cole, goes back and saves both his grandfather and the ship. 

You know there are going to be twists and turns along the way and this book didn't disappoint.

You are changing something from the past, it's going to change the future - but how much and in what way? 

This book was a real page turner, at only 84 pages long you could read it in one sitting but are left sat there thinking about it, even days later.
